Dragon boat rowing competitions are taking place in China

Dragon boat rowing competitions have already started in many cities of the Middle Kingdom. So, in the city of Wuxi, Jiangsu province, competitions are held in a picturesque historical area. The task of the participants is to overtake rivals at a four–kilometer distance.

The most massive regattas are held in Nanchang City District of Jiangxi Province. More than one thousand two hundred people take part in them. And in the suburb of Foshan in Guangdong Province, athletes train on a 25-meter-long boat.

The spectacular races are timed to coincide with the Duanwu Festival, which is also called the "double Five" Day and the Dragon Boat Festival. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, this year it fell on June 10.

Duan is eagerly awaited in China, because this is not only a traditional rowing competition, but also a symbol of the arrival of summer. The official weekend on the occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival in China starts on Saturday, June 8, and will last three days.
