Euro 2024: Italy secure their place in the knockout stages with a draw with Croatia
The Italian national team played a draw with the Croatian team in the match of the third round of the group stage of the European Football Championship. The meeting was held in Leipzig and ended with a score of 1:1.
This result permitted the Italians to reach the 1/8 finals of the tournament.
As part of the Croatian national team, Luka Modric scored the goal (55th minute), becoming the oldest goal scorer in the history of the European Championships. Mattia Zaccagni scored for the Italians (90+8).
In the parallel match of group “B”, Spain defeated Albania with a score of 1:0, which permitted them to take first place in the group with nine points. Italy finished second with four points, ahead of Croatia (two points) and Albania (one point).
Now the Italian national team will face Switzerland in the 1/8 finals on June 29 in Berlin. Spain will play one of the third-placed teams on June 30 in Cologne.
Croatia still has a chance to qualify for the knockout stages.
The European Championship will end on July 14. The current winner of the tournament is the Italian team.
