Freestyle wrestler from Turkmenistan wins gold at the Asian U20 Championship
Freestyle wrestler from Turkmenistan Alp Arslan Begenjov won the gold medal at the Asian U20 Championships in Si Racha, Thailand.
The Turkmen wrestler achieved this success in the weight category up to 79 kg, in which 11 athletes competed for the champion title.
On the way to the highest step of the podium, Alp Arslan defeated Shunsuke Mizusaki (Japan) in qualifying – 12:2, defeated Ramazan Iskanderov (Kyrgyzstan) in the quarterfinals – 10:0, and in the semifinals – Erkhan Beksultanov (Kazakhstan) – 6:0, and in the final he prevailed over Majid Bagheri Kheirabad – 10:0.
Bronze medals in this weight category went to Amit Amit from India and Erkhan Beksultanov from Kazakhstan
It is worth noting that just a month ago Begenjov became the bronze medalist of the U23 Asian Championship in Amman.
On August 8, Alp Arslan will turn only 18 years old. Previously, he twice became the winner of the international tournament “Constantin Alexandru & Ioan W. Popovici” among cadets under 17 years old in Romania in 2022 and 2023.
In 2022, he won gold at the Asian Cadet Championships in the up to 65 kg weight category, and in 2023, he became a bronze medalist in the up to 71 kg weight category.
