Olympians of Turkmenistan arrived in Paris
The sports delegation of Turkmenistan arrived at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, which will be held from the 26th of July to 11th of August in Paris (France).
Held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee every four years, these complex competitions bring together the best athletes on the planet and arouse increased interest in the world.
Turkmenistan, where great attention is paid to the development of sports, is sending a delegation of 19 people, including 6 sportsmen, to the Olympic Games for the eighth time. Our athletes will perform in four sports - judo, weightlifting, swimming and athletics.
Turkmenistan will be represented at the largest world forum on the planet by: judoists Serdar Rahymov (weight category up to 66 kg), Maysa Pardayeva (up to 57 kg), weightlifter Davranbek Hasanbayev (up to 102 kg), swimmers Musa Zalayev (100 meters of freestyle), Aynura Primova (100-meter backstroke) and athlete Valentina Meredova (100-meter dash). By the way, she is the only athlete in our delegation who will participate in the Olympics for the second time after her debut in 2008 at the Games in Beijing (China). The remaining athletes will compete at the Olympic Games for the first time.
It is noteworthy that among the debutants in our team there are already well-known athletes in world sports. This is, first of all, the first Grand Slam judo champion in the history of Turkmenistan, Serdar Rahymov - winner of the gold medal at Dushanbe Grand Slam 2024 in the weight category up to 66 kg and bronze medalist of the 19th Summer Asian Games in Hangzhou (China) and the Grand Slam tournament in Türkiye – «Antalya Grand Slam 2024» Maysa Pardayeva (up to 57 kg).
At the previous Olympic Games, which were held three years ago in Tokyo, representatives of Turkmenistan won the first silver medal in the history of our country. Weightlifter Polina Guryeva won silver in the up to 59 kg weight category.
At the upcoming Olympics in Paris, the envoys of Turkmenistan intend to surpass this achievement and raise the authority and prestige of domestic sports as high as possible. Reasons to hope for this are provided by the enormous personal participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag, in the further development of the Olympic movement, mass physical education and elite sports, which have been elevated to the rank of state policy of Turkmenistan.
On the eve of departure to Paris, a warm solemn ceremony of seeing off Turkmen athletes to the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games took place in the Olympic village of Ashgabat, which further united the people and raised the high spirit of our Olympians.
