Cristiano Ronaldo won the award for the top scorer in Champions League history

Legendary Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been honored with the prestigious award as the top scorer in the history of the Champions League. The award ceremony took place in Nyon, Switzerland, during the draw for the main stage of the Champions League season 2024/25.

Ronaldo, who has played for clubs such as “Sporting”, “Manchester United”, “Real” and “Juventus”, has set an impressive record of 140 goals in 183 matches in the tournament. His achievements in the Champions League are truly phenomenal: five-time winner of the tournament, seven-time top scorer of the season, record holder for the most goals in a single season (17 goals in 2013/14) and the only player to have scored in three finals.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has expressed hope that Ronaldo will return to the Champions League despite the fact that the Portuguese has been playing for Saudi club “Al-Nasr” since 2023. Ronaldo himself, recalling his performances in the tournament, described winning the 2008 final in Moscow as the most special at club level.

- Maybe I'll play in the Champions League again one day, who knows”, - the 39 years old striker intrigued fans, leaving open the possibility of his return to the European soccer scene.
