Mayagozel Ekejeva took 6th place at the Paralympic Games in Paris
A representative of Turkmenistan, Master of Sports of International Class Mayagozel Ekeeva took 6th place in the parapowerlifting tournament at the Paralympic Games in Paris, lifting 112 kg. The athlete competed in the weight category up to 86 kg, where 10 athletes competed for medals, olympics.com reports.
Tayana Medeiros from Brazil took first place with a result of 156 kg. Feifei Zheng from China, who holds the world record in this weight category (159 kg), took second place with a result of 155 kg. Alejandra Serrano from Chile won the bronze medal with a result of 134 kg.
Mayagozel Ekeeva already has significant achievements in her sports career. In 2008, at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, she took 7th place in the weight category up to 56 kg with a result of 82.5 kg. In 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, she took 5th place in the weight category up to 73 kg, lifting 105 kg. She also has bronze medals at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Paralympic Games and 5th place at the 2023 World Championships in Dubai.
The head of the Turkmen delegation, Takhir Shorakhanov, previously noted that the athlete's minimum goal is to enter the top five, and the maximum is to win a medal at the Paralympic Games.
