"Altyn Asyr" lost to "Air Force" in the Asian Champions League match
The football club "Altyn Asyr" lost at home to the Iraqi "Air Force" in the 5th round match of the AFC Champions League-2 group stage. The match, held in Ashgabat, ended in favor of the guests with a score of 2:0. In the 7th minute, "Altyn Asyr" defender Ahmet Atayev scored an own goal, and in the 31st minute, Iraqi midfielder Hiran Ahmed doubled his team's lead.
Starting from the 2024/25 season, the Asian Football Confederation reformed club competitions on the continent, establishing three new tournaments: the elite AFC Champions League for the highest-ranked clubs, the second-tier AFC Champions League-2, and the lowest-ranked AFC Challenge League.
The vice-champion of Turkmenistan, "Altyn Asyr," successfully passed licensing and entered the AFC Champions League-2, which is analogous to the previously existing AFC Cup, where the "Turkmenaragatnashyk" team reached the final in 2018. The team, coached by Yazkuli Hojageldiyev, started the new tournament from the preliminary round, where they won away against the Indian "East Bengal" with a score of 3:2, earning the right to represent Turkmenistan in the AFC Champions League-2 group stage.
In the AFC Champions League-2 group stage, 32 teams are divided geographically into two zones – Western and Eastern. "Altyn Asyr" plays in Group "B," where they compete for two spots in the round of 16 along with the Saudi club "Al-Taawoun" (12 points), "Al-Khalidiya" from Bahrain, and "Air Force," both having 9 points. "Altyn Asyr" is at the bottom of the table with no points. In the next round, the "telecoms" will play away against Bahrain's "Al-Khalidiya" on December 4.
